What is GYEON Q²M Compound? GYEON Q²M Compound is a medium-cut paint polish that cuts medium scratches, swirls and holograms out of the clear coat while already pulling up serious gloss – for a defect-free finish, either as prep for a coating or as a standalone polish.

In the three-step polishing system, GYEON Q²M Compound sits in the middle: more bite than a pure finishing polish, gentler than a heavy-cut compound. Exactly right for the job you meet most often — everyday scratches, swirl patterns and holograms left behind by machine work, all sorted in one pass with a good level of gloss already on the panel. The compound is built for a machine polisher and a matching pad, and it gives you fast, repeatable results.

• Medium cut – it gets on top of swirls and everyday scratches. Q²M Compound has exactly the right bite for the most common paint defects: wash marring, fine swirl patterns and light holograms are knocked back hard or removed completely in a single pass, without taking off more clear coat than you need to.
• High gloss straight out of the compound stage. Plenty of medium-cut compounds leave the paint dull and hazy, so you have to chase them with a finishing polish. Q²M Compound finishes down much better on its own: gloss after the compound stage is already high, which cuts the time you spend on the finishing pass.
• Low dusting – cleaner work all round. The Q²M Compound formula keeps polishing dust to a minimum – less spent product on the car and around you, cleaner work and less wiping down between polishing steps.

Day-to-day from Detailing1: Run Q²M Compound on a medium-cut pad with a dual-action machine (speed 6–8). Always start on a small test spot and match the machine setting to how bad the defects are. After the compound step, finish with Q²M Polish – for that last bit of deep gloss. Before you coat, always degrease with Q²M Prep.

Medium cut vs heavy cut: when Q²M Compound, when Compound+?

Picking between medium cut and heavy cut decides your result. Q²M Compound (medium cut) handles scratches down to a medium depth – everyday swirls, wash marring, light holograms and defects your fingernail just barely doesn't catch. On deep scratches, heavy holograms or really hard paint you go to Q²M Compound+ (heavy cut), which takes off a lot more clear coat. Rule of thumb: always start with the milder compound – if the result isn't there, step up to Compound+.

Q²M Compound in a two-step correction

The standard programme in professional paint correction is the two-step polish: step 1 with Q²M Compound or Q²M Compound+ (defect correction), step 2 with Q²M Polish (refining and deep gloss). Q²M Compound takes care of the correction step: every defect goes in this pass, the deep gloss comes in the finishing pass. Because Q²M Compound already leaves a good level of gloss, paint that isn't badly beaten up can sometimes be done one-step with the compound alone.

Pad recommendation for Q²M Compound

For the best results with Q²M Compound we'd reach for a heavy-cut or cut pad on the dual-action machine, or a medium-cut pad on the rotary. The pad decides your effective cut: hard pad + medium-cut polish = more effective cut, soft pad + the same polish = less. That gives you room to dial in to the defect level. After the compound step, swap the pad for the finishing pass with Q²M Polish.

Q²M Compound on different paint hardnesses

Paint hardness varies from brand to brand – German cars (BMW, Mercedes, Porsche) often run harder clear coats than Japanese or Korean ones. On very hard paint you can push Q²M Compound up a machine speed. On soft paint (a lot of Fiat and Renault models, for example) go careful – too high a setting takes off more clear coat than you want. The test spot is non-negotiable here. For extreme cases on really hard paint there's Q²M Compound+.
