What is Dr. Wack A1 interior cleaner? The interior care group of the A1 line from Ingolstadt, with the ALL in ONE cleaner, upholstery and Alcantara cleaner, matte and gloss plastic deep conditioner, and convertible top care. Six products for every material in your car, all from one brand.
Interior & Upholstery Cleaner covers the care products for the materials in a car's cockpit: plastic, fabric, Alcantara, glass and convertible top fabric. The Dr. Wack A1 interior group bundles 6 matched products under one brand, from Dr. O.K. Wack Chemie GmbH in Ingolstadt. Instead of combining 3 different manufacturers for dash, seats and windows, you cover the entire interior with one line. Made in Germany, with stable formulas since 1975.
Detailing1's tip from the shop: We often see the cleaner sprayed straight onto the display, the air vents or the dash. The product then runs into gaps and behind trim panels, where it smears and streaks. Always spray the cleaner onto the microfibre towel, not the surface, and work from top to bottom. On high-gloss piano black trim, dust off loosely first, otherwise you'll drag in fine scratches. That keeps the cockpit streak-free, and you only need about 20 minutes per car.
The A1 interior group is sorted by material, not by marketing tiers. Each of the 5 surfaces in the cockpit gets its own product.
That's the core idea behind the group. An interior is made of completely different surfaces: hard plastic on the dash, soft fabric or Alcantara on the seats, glass in the windows, and on a convertible a fabric or vinyl top as well. Each of these materials needs different chemistry. An all-purpose cleaner that does everything at once is always a compromise. Dr. Wack solves that by having A1 carry the right product for each material and tuning them all to the same way of working.
For you as a user, that means less guesswork. You don't have to weigh up whether an all-purpose cleaner will attack delicate Alcantara or whether a glass cleaner will leave smears on the dash. The assignment is clear-cut: ALL in ONE Interior & Glass Cleaner for hard surfaces and windows, Polster-/Alcantara Reiniger Pro textile cleaner for fabrics, and the plastic deep conditioner for refreshing. That lowers the risk of damaging a material with the wrong chemistry.
At Detailing1 we stock the full A1 interior group. Six products cover the entire interior of a car, and for convertibles the top cleaner and proofer come on top. That breadth is what sets A1 apart from a single all-purpose spray: you get a complete system for every surface you touch in the car, not just a stopgap for the worst of the dirt.
At the heart of the group is the ALL in ONE cleaner, with the specialists for fabric, plastic and convertible top grouped around it.
The A1 ALL in ONE Interior & Glass Cleaner is the all-rounder and the way into the group. One 500 ml spray bottle lasts for lots of cleans, and it lifts dust, fingerprints and light greasy film from dash, centre console and windows in one go. It's the quick answer for a normally dirty cockpit, not a specialist cleaner for dried-in stains in the seat upholstery. Because it also leaves glass streak-free, you can skip the separate glass cleaner and do dash and windows with one bottle.
For seats and door cards there's the A1 Polster-/Alcantara Reiniger Pro textile cleaner, a 400 ml can that lifts stains from fabric and delicate Alcantara without roughing up the fibres. Plastic care comes in two versions: the Kunststoff-Tiefenpfleger Trim Care (Matt) refreshes faded dashboards without glare, while the Tiefenpfleger Trim Care (Gloss) gives a rich black with shine. Both come in 250 ml and, because you only need a thin coat, last for plenty of dashboard refreshes.
Two products round out the group specifically for open-top cars. The A1 Cabrio Verdeck-Reiniger is a clinging power foam for fabric and vinyl convertible tops, and the A1 Cabrio Verdeck-Imprägnierer then makes the cleaned fabric top water- and oil-repellent again. Both come as 400 ml cans. Think of the two as a pair: clean first, then proof, because every clean also strips some of the existing protection. Clean without proofing and you've got a clean top that soaks through easily.
The most important choice in the group is between the matte and gloss plastic deep conditioner. It decides the look of the whole cockpit.
The difference is purely about looks, not quality. The matte deep conditioner is the right choice for the dashboard and every surface in the driver's direct line of sight. A glossy dashboard reflects in the windscreen when the sun is low and can dazzle you; the matte conditioner refreshes the colour and brings back the original anthracite without that effect. It's the standard for the interior.
The gloss deep conditioner belongs where shine is wanted and doesn't get in the way: door cards, trim strips, plastic parts in the engine bay, mirror housings and black plastic bumpers. There, it gives faded, greyed material a rich, deep black again. Both versions are approved for inside and outside; the only difference is the finish. With both in the cupboard, you can give every plastic surface on the car the look that suits it.
With the ALL in ONE cleaner, it's also worth looking at pack sizes. Alongside the standard 500 ml bottle there are multi-packs that work out cheaper per use if you clean regularly or have several cars in the household. Sprayed onto the towel, a 500 ml bottle lasts for far more cleans than when sprayed directly, because less product is wasted. If you refresh the cockpit every 2 to 3 weeks, one bottle often lasts 6 months or more.
In practice, interior care is all about the right order: dust off roughly first, then clean, then condition last.
Step one is always removing loose dirt. Crumbs, dust and sand get vacuumed out before any cleaner comes into play, otherwise you'll grind the particles in and leave fine scratches on plastic and glass. Only then does the ALL in ONE cleaner go onto the microfibre towel and from there onto dash, centre console and windows. Two or three sprays onto the towel per surface are plenty; work from top to bottom so no dirty liquid runs onto areas you've already cleaned.
The seats are a job of their own. Apply the Polster-/Alcantara Reiniger to the stain or dirty area, let it dwell briefly and work it out with a soft brush or towel in the direction of the fibres. On Alcantara, use especially light pressure and brush the surface up lightly once it's dry so the typical suede feel is kept. Avoid soaking it — damp foam under the cover dries slowly and can get musty.
Plastic care comes last. Put a thin amount of deep conditioner on a towel or applicator sponge and spread it evenly over the clean, dry plastic surfaces. Take off the excess after a few minutes, otherwise a sticky film stays behind that attracts dust. On a convertible, top care is a separate job: apply the top cleaner as foam, let it dwell, brush it out and rinse thoroughly, let the top dry completely and only then spray the proofer onto the dry fabric top. These small routines make more difference to the result than choosing between two similar products.
A common mistake is how much plastic deep conditioner people use. Many put on too much, because more shine intuitively sounds like more effect. In fact, a thin layer spreads more evenly and soaks in more cleanly, while excess smears, looks greasy and attracts dust. That way a 250 ml bottle lasts for lots of applications instead of just a few. Put the product on the applicator, not straight on the surface, and take off the excess after about 5 minutes with a dry towel. With the top proofer it's the opposite: the fabric needs a full, even soaking and often a second coat once it's dried, so the water protection lasts for several months. With a bit of practice, both become a smooth routine, and you'll work through the whole cockpit in under 30 minutes.
The A1 interior cleaner plays in the solid mid-range, with a clear strength in material coverage — but it has deliberate limits.
Compared with specialised single products from other manufacturers, the A1 group is set up more pragmatically. Brands like Koch-Chemie or SONAX do carry individual interior cleaners with their own profile, but A1 scores with a closed system from a single brand. A highly specialised textile cleaner from a detailing specialist might do a touch more on extremely stubborn stains, but then you have to run several brands side by side and check their compatibility yourself. A1 takes that matching off your hands.
The clear limit is professional odour removal and deep cleaning. The A1 interior group is designed for normal care and everyday dirt, not for restoring a smoky or badly neglected interior. Baked-in odours, extraction cleaning of the upholstery or ozone treatment need special equipment and different chemistry that A1 doesn't cover. A long-term fabric sealant for the seats isn't part of the range either. That's where adding a specialist makes sense. Being upfront about this is part of the predictability that defines Dr. Wack.
Its strength, on the other hand, is the breadth from one brand. Within the Dr. Wack world, the A1 interior group completes the cockpit, while the sister lines take on other jobs. You'll find complete exterior care in the Dr. Wack "A1" line, high-end wheel and paint care in Dr. Wack "P21S", and brand accessories across the range in the Dr. Wack hub. That division of labour makes your care routine easy to plan.
The A1 interior group suits anyone who wants to look after their cockpit regularly and without fuss, with a system instead of one-off buys.
If you refresh your car's interior every 2 to 4 weeks and want the right product to hand for every surface, the A1 group is built for exactly that. The ALL in ONE cleaner handles most of it in 20 minutes, and the specialists come in when a seat stain or a greyed dash calls for them. The typical user is the pragmatic car carer, for whom a clean, cared-for interior matters more than the last ounce of deep cleaning.
A1 is also a good pick as a way into structured interior care. You learn to split by material without having to work through five manufacturers' philosophies. The formula, stable since 1975, means no surprises when you buy a refill. For convertible drivers, the group is especially well-rounded, because with top cleaner and proofer it also covers the fabric roof that many all-purpose cleaners don't address at all.
The group is less of a fit for restoring badly neglected or smoky cars, and for anyone after machine extraction cleaning or long-term fabric sealing. If that's what you need, you're better off combining A1 with a specialist and using A1 interior care for ongoing maintenance. For exactly that kind of maintenance, cockpit by cockpit, made in Germany in Ingolstadt, the group is one of the most predictable options in the range.
