What is Koch-Chemie WetGloss? A ready-to-use polysiloxane-based wet coat sealant that you spray onto the wet paint straight after the wash and rinse off with a pressure washer. Three to six weeks of measurable beading per application, no buffing. Not suitable for matte paint, matte wraps, fabric convertible roofs or freshly painted panels less than 30 days old.

Koch-Chemie WetGloss is a ready-to-use wet coat sealant from Koch-Chemie in Unna that goes on straight after the wash, with no polishing or wiping step. The main active ingredient is an amino-functional polysiloxane — in plain English: a flexible silicone polymer with two different ends. One end carries nitrogen anchors (amino groups), the other water-repelling methyl groups. On wet paint, the polymer lines itself up: anchors into the clear coat, methyl ends facing out. For you, that means water beads off straight away in tight droplets instead of clinging to the paint — no carnauba wax, no silicon dioxide like a ceramic coating, just a self-aligning layer that lasts three to six weeks.

In detailing speak, the workflow is "spray on, rinse off": spray, rinse, done. You spray WetGloss panel by panel onto the wet car right after rinsing off the shampoo, the pressure washer spreads the polymer evenly over the section in seconds, and the excess runs off with the rinse water. Drying with a microfibre towel is the only time you still touch the paint. In practice, it's a stand-alone sealing step between full details — and at the same time a topper over existing ceramic or wax coatings that noticeably revives the hydrophobics and makes the beading measurably tighter.

• Beading refresh in minutes. Right after the rinse, water rolls off the paint in tight, compact droplets instead of forming a flat film — that classic "new car" look. You'll see it from the first drive in the rain, and next time you dry the car you'll need half the microfibre. It also spares you the wipe-and-flip routine of a dry spray sealant and the elbow grease of buffing off a carnauba wax.
• Three to six weeks of protection per application. With a typical commuter routine of washing every two to four weeks, the polymer layer lasts until the next top-up. Applied section by section, the 500 ml spray bottle covers three to five mid-size cars — about 2.30 to 5.10 euros per sealing. • Ready to use, no diluting, no foam lance. Unlike Hydro Foam Sealant S0.03, which is diluted 1:50 to 1:150 for foam sprayers or pump sprayers and needs an adjusted pre-dilution for foam cannons, or Spray Sealant S0.02, which needs 20 minutes of buffing once it has flashed off, WetGloss only needs a spray bottle, a pressure washer and a microfibre towel. Detailing1's tip from the shop: The costliest mistake with WetGloss is letting it dry on paint that's too warm. From a panel temperature of around 30 to 40 degrees — which dark paint hits within minutes in May sunshine — the alcohol carrier solvent (technically 2-propanol) evaporates so fast that the polymer cross-links unevenly. In plain terms: the amino-functional polysiloxane only partly bonds to the paint and leaves white streaks or water spots where it didn't cover. In the worst case you'll have to take the residue off with an alkaline cleaner or even a light machine polish — half an hour of extra work the product was supposed to save you. So always work in the shade, on a cool body under 25 degrees, and section by section: spray the bonnet, rinse immediately, then move on to the next section. A pressure washer is a must. Its hard jet cuts consumption from the 250 millilitres the manufacturer cautiously quotes to a realistic 100 to 150 millilitres per mid-size car.

Applying WetGloss the right way: wet paint, one section at a time, high pressure

Spray Koch-Chemie WetGloss panel by panel onto the wet car straight after the wash, rinse off immediately with high pressure and dry with a microfibre towel. Three steps, no buffing.

Here's the order in practice: car pre-washed, foam rinsed off, body still dripping wet. Grab the spray bottle, give it a quick shake and work in sections — half the roof, one wing, one door area. Six to eight pumps per section is plenty, no need to flood it. Then immediately rinse with the pressure washer from about 30 centimetres, top to bottom, until the water rolls off in tight droplets and no more foam traces run off. Only then move to the next section.

Rinse pressure makes or breaks the result. A garden hose won't cut it: the polymer doesn't spread evenly, and you use twice as much for half the result. Ideally you want over 100 bar, which every self-service wash bay delivers. If your tap water is hard, dry off straight after the last rinse — otherwise standing water leaves limescale spots on the freshly sealed surface.

Aminosilane won't fix paint defects – and temporarily masks your coating

WetGloss isn't a substitute for paint polish or a multi-year protective layer — it tops up your routine between full details with beading you can measure right away. If you want to remove scratches or polish out holograms, you're in the wrong place.

The clear no-go surfaces. On matte paint and matte wraps, the polymer visually smooths the finish and leaves an unwanted greasy look — the manufacturer explicitly rules this out, and the only way back is an alkaline cleaner. Fabric convertible roofs soak up the emulsion unevenly and stiffen the fibres; there are dedicated textile sealants for that. Freshly painted panels less than 30 days old need time to outgas — sealing over them can slow curing and, at worst, cause hazing. Uncoated polished aluminium can streak depending on the alloy, because bare metal binds the polymer's nitrogen anchors differently from sealed clear coat.

The second, lesser-known behaviour is the masking effect: if you apply WetGloss over an existing ceramic coating with strong sheeting — water sliding off flat rather than forming droplets — the polymer takes over the coating's water behaviour for three to six weeks. The flat sheeting of your SiO₂ coating turns into beading. The upside: the coating isn't damaged, and once the sacrificial layer washes off, the original behaviour comes back. But if you've only just had a premium coating applied, be aware of this temporary change in character and use WetGloss more as a winter top-up.

For maintenance-wash detailers, not full paint correction

WetGloss is the right pick if you wash your car every two to four weeks and want to build visible protection between sessions. After your regular hand wash, reach for the spray bottle, six pumps per section, rinse, dry — five extra minutes for four to six weeks of measurable hydrophobics.

It's especially economical in multi-car households and small commercial operations. At a realistic 100 to 150 millilitres per car, the 5-litre can covers more than 33 sealings. Pair WetGloss with a regular snow foam pre-wash and you stretch the real-world durability even further, because the polymer doesn't have to fight through caked-on grime and can bond cleanly to a well-kept surface.

WetGloss is less suited to valeters with a snow foam lance who need to push larger fleets through touchless — there, the concentrated Hydro Foam Sealant S0.03 wins on cost per application. And for smart-repair handovers with fresh repair paint, the 30-day waiting window applies, no exceptions.

The one trick the manufacturer doesn't shout about: don't spray the whole car at once. Apply one section, immediately pull the high-pressure water film over it, then move on. In plain terms: the polymer only needs the seconds in which the hard jet pushes the product across the wet panel — that's exactly where it cross-links, before the alcohol carrier solvent evaporates and can leave streaks. For you, that means two applications per 500 ml bottle become four to five, the real price per litre halves, and you still get measurably tighter beading than when you spray the whole car.

Store frost-free between 5 and 30 degrees and shake before use. On compliance: because it's classified as "harmful to aquatic life" (H412 under GHS), only use it on a wash bay with an oil separator. A private driveway draining straight into the storm drain is off-limits under DACH regulations — so heading to the self-service wash bay or a commercial detailing site isn't just convenient, it's mandatory.

Application of Koch-Chemie WetGloss

Apply in sections, high pressure disperses

WetGloss works as a spray-on, rinse-off sealant immediately after washing. Step one: Wash the car regularly with pH-neutral shampoo, then rinse off the foam completely. The body remains dripping wet. Shake the spray bottle briefly, open the spray nozzle.

Step two: Work section by section, do not spray the entire car at once. One section (half a roof, one fender, one door area) receives six to eight evenly distributed sprays from a distance of approximately 25 centimeters. Immediately afterwards, rinse with a high-pressure cleaner from a distance of 30 centimeters from top to bottom until the water runs off in dense drops. Over 100 bar, as available at any self-service car wash, is ideal.

Step three: Dry with a microfiber drying towel in sections, do not rub. If the tap water quality is hard, wipe off immediately after the last rinse, otherwise you risk limescale stains on the freshly sealed layer.

Notes: WetGloss is not suitable for matte paints, matte films, convertible fabric tops, freshly painted surfaces under 30 days old, or uncoated polished aluminum. Avoid application in direct sunlight and on hot paint; at component temperatures of approximately 30 to 40 degrees Celsius, the product dries too quickly and leaves white streaks. Due to the classification H412, use only at car wash facilities with oil separators — a private driveway with a direct connection to the storm sewer is legally prohibited in DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).
